Medicare

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program in the United States designed mainly for people aged 65 and older, but it also covers certain younger individuals with disabilities or specific medical conditions.

Who Medicare Is For

Medicare is available to:

- People aged 65 or older

- Individuals under 65 with qualifying disabilities

- People with End-Stage Renal Disease or ALS

The Four Parts of Medicare

Part A: Hospital Insurance

Covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care, hospice services, and some home health care.

Part B: Medical Insurance

Covers doctor visits, specialist appointments, outpatient care, lab tests, preventive care, and medical supplies.

Part C: Medicare Advantage

Offered through private insurance companies. Combines Part A and Part B, and often includes added benefits like dental, vision, hearing, transportation, and prescription drug coverage.

Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage

Helps pay for prescription medications, both generic and brand-name drugs.

Understanding Medicare Costs

Medicare isn’t free. Each part has its own premiums, deductibles, copays, and yearly changes. Your costs depend on the coverage you choose—Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Part D drug plans, or a Medigap supplement.
